Fairy Tail Question
Gruvia shippers, give me one reason why I should consider this pairing as anything more than bad comic relief;
No, before you burst out in a rage and type out an entire paragraph in uppercase insulting my shipping preferences, hear me out.
I tried to like Gruvia, I really did. I've always been aware, even before I began reading FT, that Gruvia was a very popular pairing, and one cannot survive in a fandom where the majority ships a pairing you don't like without bursting an artery from sheer annoyance, so I tried to force myself to ship it, but I can't.
If you guessed that my main problem with it is Juvia's behavior towards Gray, you were right.
Let me preface this by saying I don't dislike Juvia by any means, but it disturbs me that the shippers are playing off Juvia's obsessive and stalker behavior as "cute" and "funny", especially when Gray has shown time and again that he's uncomfortable with it. Others act like Gray owes Juvia his love, and every little thing he does that doesn't fit into their little romance guidebook has hordes of angry shippers bashing him left, right and center. Their reason for this? "Juvia loves him so much and how dare he treat her like this". Yeah right.
The only reason Juvia's stalking and obsessing gets a free pass is because she's female, and attractive. Replace her with a dude who isn't handsome and no one would find it romantic or funny anymore. Heck, let's take Ichiya for example. Ichiya is obsessed with Erza and occasionally stalks her. Do I see people cheering for Ichiya to get together with Erza? No. Likewise, Simon was devoted to Erza and did everything for her, and yet it didn't change the fact that she didn't love him romantically and only saw him as a friend. Do I see people screaming bloody murder at Erza and calling her terrible for not returning his feelings? Nah. That is the double standards with Gruvia.
Last but not least, this pairing basically sends out a message that if you stalk someone past the point of a restraining order, eventually they will want you. I don't know about you, but that's not the best messa
